Artificial Intelligence To Predict Visa Overstayers

February 2, 2022BY Admin ( 0 ) Comment

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now being used to predict visa overstayers by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). The ICA started using AI in 2017, but has only recently announced its success. The system predicts which visitors will overstay their allotted time in Singapore. It does so by analysing a wide range of data, including historical data on past visa overstayers as well as information on their travel pattern and networks. This helps ICA identify the risk of potential overstayers, who can then be targeted for follow-up checks.

What is Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that allows computers to mimic human intelligence in certain tasks. In the recent past, technology has experienced exponential growth in many subfields including AI. This trend indicates that “intelligence” can be reproduced in the digital world.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. The term was coined in 1957 by John McCarthy and Marvin Minsky. Artificial intelligence research is highly technical and specialized, and focuses on many problems loosely related to the abilities of human intelligence.

The cost of overstayers

The cost of visa overstayers is more expensive than you think. For example, the cost of detention and removal proceedings in 2016 reached $2.9 billion. That is almost twice as much as the year before. The cost of these proceedings is being passed on to taxpayers, who have no relation to the visitor at all.

Conclusion

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a buzzword that has been around for years, but it is only recently started to make an impact in the travel industry. AI is being used by airlines to predict visa overstayers and helps to reduce the cost of processing visas.
